It's the crazy season, or as those of us on the East and Gulf Coasts call it, hurricane season. We write this as Hurricane Earl begins bearing down on the Carolinas and points North. Soon, television reporters will be standing out in the rain and the wind illustrating that it is in fact wet and windy out there. Legendary newsman Dan Rather started it all back in September of 1961 covering Carla while a reporter for KHOU-TV. His coverage catapulted him to the network. TV journalists have been hoping for the same fate ever since. For more videos starring the likes of Geraldo Rivera and Al Roker braving the elements, click here for Laurie Kendrick's very funny and insightful blog post.

When it comes to storytelling, Steve Hartman of CBS never fails to impress. His recent CBS Evening News piece on HOT weather is a case in point.

A 30 Year gig and a multi-million dollar salary is the way we will remember "Entertainment Tonight" host Mary Hart. But, let's not forget she got her humble start in local TV news.

More Than a dozen Salt lake City news vets have ambitiously launched a 24 hour news website to compete with the big boys in town. Randall Carlisle, Dick Nourse and Terry and Susan Wood are just a few of the familiar names that dot the masthead. Below is a section of their introduction and here is a link to the site. Good luck guys!
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the Salt TV beta test site, future home of the Salt TV Network; the independent Internet news agency dedicated to local news coverage on a statewide level and brought to you by journalists you know and trust.
The site concept has been in development for over a year. We are obviously a work in progress. Nonetheless, we invite you to navigate the site, check out some of our featured elements and tell us what you think in the comment section below. You’ll find a few holes in the process, and a fair amount of placeholder material. We ask that you be patient as these elements will be coming online sooner that later. We are still getting a sense and feel of the site’s internal metrics, while addressing stylistic issues and other protocols for keeping the Salt TV site fresh and up to date.
This is an exciting time for us. New material is in the pipeline and we believe you’ll like what you see and hear; in depth and thought-provoking stories about the real issues impacting everyday Utahns.
